Hybrid solar inverter price in India (2026)

Sourced from the official MuscleGrid manuals · updated 2026-09-07

A hybrid solar inverter in India costs roughly ₹16,480 to ₹269,000 depending on how many watts it carries, how much solar it can accept and how fast it charges a battery. Capacity is what everyone compares first, but the PV input ceiling and the charger current are what decide whether the system still suits you in three years.

What size do you actually need?

Add up everything you want running at the same time, then leave about 25% headroom for start-up surge — fridges, pumps and air conditioners briefly draw far more than their running watts.

5 kW is the size most Indian homes end up buying — it is the smallest inverter that comfortably carries a household plus an air conditioner. We list 11 models in the 4.2–6.2 kW range from ₹35,010.

Going one band larger costs far less than replacing the inverter in two years. Going smaller to save money is the most common and most expensive mistake in this category.

Can a solar inverter run an air conditioner?

Yes, with the right sizing. A 1.5-ton inverter AC draws roughly 1,200–1,600 W running, with a higher pull at start-up. Carrying that plus a normal household load makes a 4.2 kW or 5 kW hybrid the practical floor, and 6.2 kW the answer for two ACs.

The inverter is only one part of it. You also need enough panel area to generate through the afternoon, and enough battery if you want the AC to survive a power cut. An inverter converts and directs energy — it does not create it. As a rough guide, a 1.5-ton AC running four hours a day needs about 6 kWh, which is roughly 2 kWp of panels in Indian sunlight and a 5 kWh battery if you want it through a cut.

Hybrid, off-grid or on-grid — which one?

The three numbers that matter more than price

PV input ceiling

The maximum solar array the inverter will accept, in kWp. A 6.2 kW inverter that accepts 9 kW of panels lets you oversize the array so it still performs in winter and on cloudy days. An inverter with a tight PV ceiling caps how much solar you can ever add.

Charger current

Measured in amps, this sets how fast the battery refills. A 120 A charger on a 48V bank puts back roughly 5.7 kW an hour; a 60 A charger takes twice as long. In areas with short grid windows between cuts, charger current matters more than headline capacity.

MPPT, not PWM

Maximum Power Point Tracking continuously finds the voltage at which your panels give the most power as sunlight and panel temperature change through the day. Against an older PWM controller it typically extracts 20–30% more energy from the same array — free output for no extra panels. Every MuscleGrid hybrid uses true MPPT, and the larger units run dual or triple trackers so shading on one string does not drag the rest down.

12V, 24V or 48V?

The battery voltage is set by the inverter, so it is a decision you make once. Higher voltage means lower current for the same power, which means thinner cable, less heat and less loss. Small inverters up to about 1.5 kW run 12V; 2–5 kW is typically 24V; anything from 4 kW upward is best on 48V, and every serious home system should be 48V. You cannot mix — a 48V inverter needs a 48V (51.2V nominal LiFePO4) battery.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 5 kW hybrid solar inverter cost in India?

Across the market a 5 kW hybrid runs roughly ₹75,000 to ₹1,60,000 depending on MPPT count, PV ceiling and build quality. Our own 4.2–6.2 kW models start at ₹35,010 including GST.

Why is a hybrid inverter more expensive than a normal inverter?

A hybrid contains a solar charge controller, a grid charger and a transfer system in one box, and it decides between solar, grid and battery second by second. A plain inverter only converts DC to AC. The hybrid pays the difference back in electricity you stop buying.

Do I need a battery to use a hybrid solar inverter?

Not immediately. Several MuscleGrid hybrids run batteryless on solar and grid, so you can install solar now and add storage later. You simply have no backup during a power cut until the battery is fitted.

Can a 5 kW solar inverter run a 1.5-ton air conditioner?

Yes. A 1.5-ton inverter AC draws about 1,200–1,600 W running, so a 5 kW hybrid carries it alongside normal household load. You still need enough panels and battery if you want it to run through a power cut.

What is the difference between kW and kVA on an inverter?

kVA is apparent power and kW is real power. For a pure sine wave inverter driving normal household loads the two are close. Size on the watts your appliances actually draw, plus surge headroom.

What GST applies to solar inverters in India?

Solar inverters are taxed at 5% GST. The prices in the table above already include it, and you get a GST invoice on every order.

What warranty do MuscleGrid inverters carry?

Two years as standard, and five years on the Focus and Titan series, covering manufacturing defects and internal component failure, with service from our own centres in Delhi and Meerut.
